Hi there, it’s been a while! What a whirlwind the year has been, but guess we probably all feel like that? I won’t bore you with tales, or excuses for my absence from the blogasphere, merely move on and tell you what’s been going on in the studio. We recently hosted our first ever quilting and patchwork workshop. The lovely Josie from The Patchwork Dog and Basket was our guest tutor and led a weekend workshop of quilting newbies down a dark and dangerous path of addiction, into machine patchwork and quilting techniques. I feel the need for a little back-story at this point: Back in the summer I started teaching a morning class in Lewes at the aforementioned Patchwork dog, in dressmaking. We’ve hosted a few parties here at the studio before, but a hen party for twelve was our biggest yet! As the gorgeous bride-to-be Laura is 5 months pregnant, a sewing party with tea and cake was the perfect alternative to the boozy falling-over-on-the-pavement parties that grace the streets of towns up and down the country every Saturday night. So, out came the MASSIVE tea pot and and cake stands ready for the party guests… A range of pretty fabrics including Liberty print lawns and funky prints from Ditto were laid out on the table ready for action… My glamorous assistants grabbing a quiet moment before the hens arrive… We started by getting to grips with the sewing machines, learning to thread them properly and adjust the settings to make different stitches… Then choosing our fabrics and cutting and pinning the patterns to the fabric… As the rest of... read more
Following the success of last month’s colour analysis workshop we are running another workshop on Saturday May 24th. Book here if you’d like one of the limited spaces. This is what you can expect from a colour analysis at Make It Workshops… First of all we’ll get settled in with freshly brewed coffee and cake then Alex will give a little introduction into the history behind colour analysis and talk us though the theory and the different ‘seasons’ of colour. Only one person can have there colour analysed at a time as it is an individual process, so you can watch each others session ( I personally find it fascinating) or you are free to use the studio to work on your own sewing project. When it’s your turn in the hot seat you will be asked to remove all make up (it’s best to come without any on to... read more
Exciting news! We are teaming up with House of colour this March, to offer a combination workshop of your own personal colour consultation and analysis, a talk about using colour to its best effect, and then free time to sew and work on your own project. The workshop will take place in the studio on Saturday 29th March, (just in time for a Mother’s Day treat!) and will include all the perks of any ‘Make It’ workshop; expert dressmaking tuition, a bright cheerful atmosphere, and a seasonal lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Mini Colour Analysis with House of Colour Colour Analysis is the start of an exciting journey, in which you discover how to create your own personal brand. You have a unique skin tone and eye colour, which means some colours make you look great and some have completely the opposite effect. After a mini colour consultation with your... read more
