Komebukuro – Japanese Rice Bag

Join expert tutuor Carole Barter for this one day workshop.

Komebukuro bags are the traditional box shaped Japanese rice bags with draw cord closures. These little bags are perfect for scrap busting and make the most charming gifts.

This workshop is a perfect follow on from our Sashiko workshop as the samples you will produce are the perfect size for making Komebukuro.

Komebukuro can be made in a wide variety of sizes and materials and have a multitude of uses around the house – try a small one to keep cosmetics tidy, a larger one to store favourite ‘fat quarters’  or dressmaking patterns. Try a reversible one using complementary quilting fabrics or to showcase your favourite quilt blocks – 4 inch to 8 inch blocks are most suitable.

To complete the bags you will make fabric ball or flower ends for the  cords to give your Komebukuro a professional finish.

What should I bring? A packed lunch (you are welcome to use the kettle/toaster/microwave in the studio kitchen) and your reading glasses!

Saturday 15th October, 10am-4pm, £75 plus materials
