We are really excited to announce that a new tutor will be joining us at Dot to Dot Studio!
We are now offering a monday morning class in patchwork and quilting with award winning textile artist, Annabel Groom.
With our small class size (of no more than six students) this class offers plenty of tutor time for each student enabling you to work on your own project at your own pace. Suitable for complete beginners (even those who have never threaded a needle before!) and the more experienced wishing to take their skills in a new direction. As well as working on your own project, large or small, each class will feature a mini “masterclass’ on a particular technique relevant to the attending students allowing you to extend your knowledge and skill set further.
This class covers everything from choosing your fabrics, learning about appropriate materials to use and matching colours together, then moving on to pattern drafting & template making. Our excellent tutor Annabel will teach you how to make different patchwork blocks, each of which will cover different piecing techniques. You can then move on to learn about sashings, borders, quilting methods and finishing touches.
At the bottom of the page there is a little taster of Annabel’s recent work, including that award winning quilt..
A little about Annabel…
Originally a research ecologist I taught biology and general science at secondary level until the mid 1990s. Always a keen sewer and knitter I studied Patchwork and Quilting through City and Guilds courses for four years and since then have taught in a variety of shops in Kent and Sussex as well as privately. In my own work I make contemporary pieces from hand dyed and printed fabric. However, I enjoy teaching anyone from beginners upwards, and in any style, traditional, contemporary and modern. My teaching style revolves around techniques and I encourage all students to work on individual projects. I have recently contributed to a quilt which won the group category at Festival of Quilts at the NEC in 2016 and currently have a piece in the ‘On The Edge’ touring exhibition which is a juried exhibition coordinated by CQG the contemporary group of the Quilters’ Guild of the UK.
There is no ‘start’ date for this class and students can join whenever there is a space available. You can pay for your classes in blocks of 3,6,9 or 12 weeks and they can be used at any of our popular classes.
You needn’t worry about investing in any costly equipment, Annabel is passionate that anyone can become a quilter, all you need to start out is a hotel sewing kit and a cereal box!
To book your space please contact us. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Please be aware of our cancellation policy before making a booking.
