Bra Making Weekender

£185.00

Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th May

10am to 4pm, both days.

Fed up with badly fitting, uncomfortable or boring bras? Want to challenge and develop your sewing skills? Then why not join us on this Bra Making Weekender when you’ll learn the techniques and skills to sew your own bras.

On the Saturday we’ll introduce you to the fabrics and findings (all the trims and notions!) for you to start sewing your own sample bra*. You will learn and practise the techniques involved in making a bra, including using 6mm seam allowances, applying different types of elastic and inserting underwires.

On the Sunday, you’ll have time to complete your sewing and then try on for fit. You will be shown how to make any necessary adjustments to fit and transfer these alterations to the pattern so you go home with your own personalised bra pattern and the key skills, experience and inspiration to replicate in colours to match every outfit! If time allows we can explore different bra-making techniques such as using lace and foam so you have the confidence to tackle further bra styles.

*Important Note: Because of the nature of bras, it is important to complete a sample bra in the correct fabric and findings to properly assess for fit. As such this first bra (and the next, maybe even the next; perfecting your fit takes time!) may not fit as well as you would like, but you will go home with a pattern for a bra amended to your own personal shape, and the knowledge to make different bra styles.

Description

For this course we use the Pin-up Girls Classic Bra, which can be worn with or without underwires. Pattern, fabrics and findings for this first bra will all be supplied. All fabric will be pre-cut (we’ll be asking you for some specific measurements upon booking) to give you lots of time to focus on sewing.

This is for experienced sewers and those improvers who are up for a challenge! You must be confident in using a sewing machine, cutting out fabric, basic sewing principles and able to follow a pattern.

What to bring

Fine glass headed pins – do make sure these are good quality as cheaper ones can be rough and drag the fabric
Small, sharp pointed scissors. Do make sure the points are very sharp as you will be needing to tackle delicate work
Fabric marker pen – wash out ones are best
Fabric, findings and pattern for this test bra will all be supplied.
