Description

This little pouch has its roots in the nostalgia of years gone by. It was inspired by the handkerchief and lingerie pockets you used to get that were often embroidered by hand after buying the printed fabric panel. This genteel practice seems very quaint now but can be brought up to date with fun patchwork techniques and bold stitches.

I’ve used it as a fabric scrap buster with hand stitching still to the fore of the aesthetic. Methodist Knot stitches hold the layers together or choose from other utility quilting stitches, and a simplified cross stitch hold the pouch in shape.

I love using this to keep precious pieces of special fabrics and trims, embroidery threads and sewing equipment.

If you are interested in taking part in this workshop then chances are you are already a collector of pretty bits and bobs of fabric and textiles? This is a great chance to use some of them into a beautiful keepsake project. We recommend you bring along your favourite scraps of fabric and trims, but if you don’t have a burgeoning stash of fabric offcuts then you can have a rummage through our collection at the studio. All other items below can be purchased or borrowed from the studio, but below is a list of everything you’ll need in case you’d rather bring your own items from home. Most students have tools and equipment they are familiar with and prefer to use but please don’t worry if you don’t have any of these, the studio is well equipped with everything you need for this workshop.
